The tale of a medical marvel

A while back, I was asked if i’d like to support junior doctors with their exams, so they could learn about complex medical Marvels, like mine. I thought it would be a cool experience, I also went into this, as a chance for self-promotion for my autobiography and my website/blog.

I went in with not knowing much, and with little expectation of how the day would go. While waiting in the waiting room, I looked around at other participants and realized I was the youngest, that felt quite disheartening. The examiners and examinees were surprised that someone my age, 28 has such a complex medical history. I also touched a little on my childhood, which made me a little emotional, as some of my medical challenges are a result from parts of my upbringing. They went away exclaiming how inspiring my story is, some asked for my website address and what my autobiography was called. Yes I was stoked to self-promote!!

The first examinee was very nervous, and apologised if he was ‘short’ before he asked me questions about my illnesses. I’d like to think that i made him feel a little relaxed by flashing my colorful socks and my smile! I hope both examinees felt at easy and they felt comfortable talking to me and asking personal questions and I felt I was pretty open with everybody!

Despite loving to be around people and talking loads (Communication is my top strength!) I felt so tired, but wanted to push through for the second examinee, I did, and answered her questions while lying down, which I thought seemed to work? The nurses that were available to help with our needs were so helpful and lets not forget that transport and food was paid for and provided for us.

I like to think I got a chance to promote my work but also being a good person helping and inspiring others. :)
